Tim is a Junior Research Fellow at the Development Policy Research Unit and a PhD candidate in the University of Cape Town’s School of Economics. His PhD dissertation focuses on a micro-econometric analysis of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on labour market inequalities in South Africa. He obtained his Masters and Honours degrees in Economics from Stellenbosch University, and previously worked as a research assistant for the Research on Socio-Economic Policy unit in Stellenbosch University’s Department of Economics and a research intern in the South African Reserve Bank. His research is primarily on applied development microeconomics with a focus on labour economics, policy evaluation, social protection, and poverty and inequality measurement and analysis.
